I decided to watch a basketball match last night. Mainly because there was one on and I was bored but it appeared to be a rather big occasion. As far as I could work out, apart from it being Michael Jordan's big comeback (again), it was the beginning of the season and it also appeared to have something to do with the tragedy in New York. The BBC was covering it and in its wisdom chose to send Clare Balding (an expert on horse racing) and Gary Richardson (who I'm 90% certain Steve Coogan based his characted Alan Partridge on) as its live tv team. Whoops. Clare Balding made the helpful remark, "he's a big guy", about every single player they discussed. And Gary Richardson was let loose on the largely celebrity crowd to do excruciating live interviews mostly involving stupid questions and bewildered Americans. He asked Kevin Kline "The players must be very nervous now just before the game. Can you relate to that? Is it like how you feel just before a big scene in a film?". To which Kline sensibly replied "No."

What a shambles. I fell asleep in the second quarter so I don't even know what happened in the end.
